There something about online poker that's more than just an extension of the real life game. There's a culture developing that can't be defined by the traditional media, no matter how hard they try.

Online poker games are in some sense pure abstractions of the game without the distractions of the people. Whatever the descriptive, online poker is a phenomenon that, as it defines itself, finds an environment in which the hunger for information is insatiable. As new comers discover both the internet's ability to teach and the motivation driven by a desire to play online poker and perform well.

In many respects, online poker is viewed as a competitive sport. And the traditional media is there because of this perception. But online poker is way more exciting than watching other people play on tv.
